Why do some people prefer to grow food instead of flowers?

Well, I think there are many reasons why some people prefer to grow food instead of flowers. For one thing, growing food is practical, right?

I mean, if you have space in your garden, it makes sense to plant vegetables or fruits that you can eat.

It’s like combining a hobby with something useful. For example, suppose you have a family - having your own home-grown tomatoes or herbs could cut down on grocery bills, and there’s something satisfying about eating food you’ve grown yourself.

Also, flowers are just decorative, aren't they? They look nice but don’t provide any tangible benefits beyond that.

If you think about, it someone might prefer to use their time and effort for something they can consume or even share with others, like giving neighbors home-grown produce.

And let’s say someone is into the whole sustainability and eating organic - growing your own food lets you control what goes into it, so no pesticides, for instance.

On the other hand, some people just aren’t into aesthetics or gardening for visual pleasure.

Instead, they might be more focused on getting something practical out of their hard work. Not that flowers don’t have their place, but for people with limited space or time the idea of growing food seems more rewarding.

In short, I’d say it comes down to practicality, sustainability, and a desire for a direct reward from gardening.
