Cambridge IELTS 10 Speaking Test 3 Part 1
Cambridge 10 Sample Answers
1. Yes, I absolutely love travelling! I love exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. I think it widens my perspective and gets me out of my comfort zone. For example last year I went to Japan and it was amazing to see how different the customs and way of life was from mine. Travelling is such a great way to learn about the world and make unforgettable memories.
2. Yes, I’ve been lucky enough to travel a lot. My family used to go on road trips every summer and now as an adult I try to take at least one international trip a year. I think travelling has become a big part of who I am because each trip has taught me something new. For example, when I went to Italy I learned about art history and in Thailand I learned a few words of Thai. Travelling has definitely added to my life.
3. I personally think it’s better to travel with others. I think sharing experiences makes them more memorable. When I travel with friends or family we create stories together that we can laugh about for years to come. On the other hand, I understand why some people might prefer to travel alone because they can move at their own pace and really focus on personal growth. But for me, the social aspect of travelling is what I enjoy.
4. I would love to travel to New Zealand in the future. I’ve heard so much about the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife. I think it would be amazing to hike through the national parks and maybe even try some adventure sports like bungee jumping. New Zealand seems like a place where you can connect with nature in a way you can’t in most other countries so it’s at the top of my travel list.
Score
Fluency and Coherence
The answers are clear and easy to follow, no pauses or hesitations. For example, in Q3 the speaker gives a balanced answer by explaining both sides (travelling alone vs with others) which shows ability to develop an argument.
Lexical Resource
Good range of vocabulary used accurately and appropriately. For example, "gets me out of my comfort zone", "widens my perspective", and "breathtaking landscapes" add to the answers. The vocabulary fits the topic of travel well and helps to convey the speaker’s thoughts more.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy
The speaker has good control of grammar, using complex sentences without mistakes. For example, in Q2 the sentence "each trip has taught me something new" is a complex sentence that adds to the overall grammatical variety. Both simple and complex sentences are used well and show flexibility.
Pronunciation
The answers are written in a way that can be pronounced clearly and naturally. The speaker is conversational and the intonation would emphasise the enthusiasm in “I absolutely love travelling!” and curiosity in “I think it would be amazing”. The vocabulary used also supports natural pronunciation patterns and no difficult or unnatural phrasing.
Overall, these answers would likely score highly as they meet the IELTS criteria by demonstrating coherence, rich vocabulary, grammatical accuracy, and natural pronunciation. They also reflect a confident, conversational tone suitable for Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking Test.
