IELTS Speaking Practice Part 1
Do you work or study?
I’m studying and I’m in a master’s program in computer engineering. I’m focusing on machine learning and artificial intelligence. I love the intersection of software development and data analytics so that’s why I’m interested in this field.
Do you like it?
Yes, I really enjoy it. I get to explore many topics from the basics of computer science that I learned in my undergraduate to more advanced courses on AI and ML. The subject matter is very interesting and so far it’s been great.
What do you like most?
My favorite part is seeing how everything fits together. I love taking something complex like AI and ML, breaking it down into its components and then applying what I learned in my studies to solve real world problems. It’s a great feeling when all the pieces of the puzzle come together.
What have you done so far?
So far I’ve been able to apply AI and ML in many projects. I built an automated customer service chatbot that can answer basic questions about our products, helped in the development of an AI powered tool to find new business opportunities and now I’m working on a project that uses computer vision to detect anomalies in medical scans. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished and looking forward to see what other applications of AI and ML I can come up with.
Why do you want to keep learning?
I want to learn because I want to make an impact in the world around me no matter how small. Every challenge I face pushes me to go beyond what’s possible with AI and ML. I want to show people that this technology can be used for good whether it’s helping a business or making life easier for an individual.
Do you want to change the type of work you do?
Yes, I want to change the type of work I do in the future. After I finish my program and gain some experience in a few areas I hope to transition into something that combines my technical background with creative skills. For example I have interest in product design and user interface/experience (UI/UX) design. I also want to explore opportunities that combines software development, data analytics and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
Have you ever been on a boat?
Yes, I have been on a boat. When I was younger my family and I went on many fishing trips throughout the summer. It was always an adventure to explore new waterways and catch different types of fish. Now I still enjoy going out on boats with friends or family whether it’s for a day trip or a week long cruise. It’s one of my favorite hobbies!
Do people in your country travel by boat? Why? Why not?
In my country people don’t travel by boat much. This is because boats are not very cost effective and most places can be reached by car or plane. But some people do own boats and use them for recreational activities like fishing, boating and sailing.
Do you think people used boats more in the past than nowadays?
I think people may have used boats more in the past than nowadays. In the past boat transportation was much more reliable and efficient than it is today. It was often the only way to travel between distant places or even just get around in a certain area. Nowadays other forms of transportation make it easier and faster to reach places like cars and planes.
But boating is still a popular recreational activity today. People use boats for fishing, sailing trips or just to spend time with friends and family.
Do you want to own a boat?
Maybe in the future. It’s a big commitment and requires careful planning to make sure it fits into your budget. There are many things to consider when buying a boat such as size, type of motor, cost, features and maintenance requirements. Boat ownership also comes with responsibilities like registering your vessel and taking safety precautions while on the water.
What would you use the boat for?
I guess I would use the boat for many things. Fishing is high on my list, leisurely sailing trips and just spending time with friends and family. I might also use the boat for tubing or skiing in the summer. There’s something special about being on a calm lake or river and watching the sun go down.
Are there any downsides to boat ownership?
I can think of a few downsides to boat ownership. The most obvious one is the cost. You need to budget for fuel, maintenance, docking fees and other expenses. Then there are storage costs during the off-season and insurance premiums for your vessel and its contents. And never forget to factor in the time involved in taking care of a boat.

Also parents should try to expose their children to different types of music. Whether it’s folk music from around the world or classical favourites like Mozart and Bach, give them options and they’ll find something that resonates with them.
Let them play and discover with guidance - you never know what they’ll come up with!
