I mean the advertising industry employs a lot of people, so that’s a good thing, right? And companies need to sell their products and services to survive, so advertising is kind of an essential part of business and the economy. I’m not sure if you can measure how much is too much – because there is no limit, is there? I guess if companies advertise, then they must be moving their products, and they wouldn’t advertise something if it wasn’t going to be successful for them, because that would just be bad business. Before, adverts were common in newspapers, magazines, and other published material, and on TV and radio. But now with advances in technology, and since everyone has a mobile phone, probably the biggest growth area for ads has been online, through websites, apps and so on, and better technology now has made it easier now to product large scale advertisements such as billboards and huge banners too. For example, the buses and other large vehicles you see with adverts on them – in the past the ads would have to have been painted on them by hand, but now printing technology makes it much easier, quicker and cheaper to produce such things – so naturally there are more of them. You can’t walk or drive along a street without seeing advertising of one sort or another promoting all kinds of products and brands. For example, you can see large billboards, posters on bus stops, advertising panels on taxis, and even the entire taxi painted in the colors of a brand, business or company, and buses sponsored by brands too. You can’t escape it. There is also the more traditional advertising on TV and radio, in newspapers, magazines and other special publications, and online ads are now everywhere on all the apps everyone is using, so yes, sometimes it feels like we’re being bombarded by ads – but then you also become immune to them after a while.
