IELTS Speaking Answer | A person in the news you would like to meet

I’m not a big fan of anyone in the news at the moment, but I guess it would be interesting to meet Donald Trump. He’s constantly in the news at the moment because of his bid for the US presidency.

Now, I don’t know that much about him, or even agree with some of the things he says – but he certainly seems to be popular with a large section of the population in America – and that’s interesting - because he’s not even a politician.
Now, why is he in the news much more than the other candidates who are in the presidential race – it’s probably because he’s not a politician - and he’s not following the normal rules for such things.

It’s quite incredible how people are always trying to disrespect him – and you would expect that to make him less popular with people – but that’s not the case - support seems to be growing for him the more that other candidates and the political establishment attack him.

Now that says something quite important – it could be that the political class are afraid of him, and what he might be capable of – because he doesn’t play the game as they like – he just does his own thing – and they can’t control him.

Another reason why he’s an interesting character is the simple, but important fact, that he’s self financing his campaign – he’s not accepting any money from big corporations or the rich political classes which normally buy politicians. And I think this is one of the primary reasons why he’s attracting so much support from many regular Americans – they are simply tired of the political elite and the corruption in government - and Trump is literally a breath of fresh air, he’s using his own money, and speaking in non political language – and that seems to be resonating well with a large section of people.

It doesn’t even matter to these people that some of his policy ideas seem to be unrealistic, or that he seems to offend many people – it appears that he can do no wrong at the moment.

Okay, now if I actually met him, I would probably want to ask him just one question – and that would be – why on earth he wanted to go through this whole process. I mean he’s one of the richest guys in the country, so he could basically do whatever he wants – so I’d be interested in hearing his reasons for running for president, especially since he’s not a politician.
