Why do people wear different styles of clothing?
Primarily, as a means of distinguishing themselves from others and also as part of their social identity. Different styles appeal to different kinds of people, for example, you might identify with grunge culture, or be a hipster, or more traditional and conservative. Styles of clothing reflect people’s values and preferences in some cases and can help people identify other people who hold the same values or views as them.
Then, of course, there’s the fact that fashion trends continually change and evolve and some people just like the variety that different styles offer – it’s a way of not becoming bored wearing the same things all the time, year after year.
But there’s also a practical aspect, too. For example, some people who do a lot of sports activities might tend to use a lot of ‘active wear’ clothing items which are designed for a specific function, as well as being stylish and fashionable. And so those are some of the reasons why people wear different styles of clothing.
